عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ سَمِعَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَجُلًا يَقُولُ لِرَجُلٍ مَا اسْمُكَ قَالَ شِهَابٌ فَقَالَ أَنْتَ هِشَامٌ
It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) heard a man ask another man: "What is your name?" He replied: "My name is Shahab." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are Hisham."
Brief Explanation
Benefits: … "Shihab" means a flame of fire, and punishment is inflicted through fire; therefore, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam disliked this name.
