Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Now what is the purpose of performing raml (walking briskly) and uncovering the shoulders during tawaf? Now Allah Almighty has given dominance to Islam and has eradicated disbelief and the people of disbelief, but even so, we will not abandon the practice that we used to do during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu made a very beautiful statement that the reason for *raml* and *idtiba‘* was those polytheists who, on the occasion of the ‘Umrah of Ji‘ranah, were sitting towards the Hatim and whose belief was that the fever of Yathrib had weakened and emaciated the Muslims. To refute this notion of theirs, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam commanded *raml* and *idtiba‘*. After the dominance of Islam, this reason ceased to exist altogether, but Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu wanted to say that the action which the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam performed should be maintained, even if its original reason no longer remains.
