Hadith 3494

Sayyiduna Salman al-Farsi (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I was a slave. One day I brought food to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: This is charity. (Upon hearing this) the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed the companions to eat, so they ate, but he himself did not eat. Then one day I brought food and said: May Allah honor you, this is a gift which I have brought for you, because I have seen that you do not eat charity. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed his companions, so they also ate, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ate with them.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … According to the preferred opinion, by “Aal-e-Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam)” is meant the Banu Abdul Muttalib and Banu Hashim, and by Banu Hashim is meant the descendants of Sayyiduna Ali, Sayyiduna Abbas, Sayyiduna Aqil, and Sayyiduna Harith ibn Abdul Muttalib. From some of the aforementioned ahadith, it is also understood that the same ruling applies to their slaves. Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah writes: From this hadith, it is understood that charity (sadaqah) is also unlawful for the slaves of the household (Ahl al-Bayt) of the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). This is also the well-known opinion in the Hanafi school, although the statement of Ibn Malik is contrary to this, but Allamah Mulla Ali Qari has refuted this in (Mirqat al-Mafatih: 2/448-449); it is recommended to study this. (Sahihah: 1613) Even today, those whose lineage connects to the aforementioned personalities should be extremely cautious in this matter.
