Hadith 3265

عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: ثَلَاثُ سَاعَاتٍ كَانَ يَنْهَانَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ نُصَلِّيَ فِيهَا أَوْ أَنْ نَقْبُرَ فِيهِنَّ مَوْتَانَا: حِينَ تَطْلُعُ الشَّمْسُ بَازِغَةً حَتَّى تَرْتَفِعَ، وَحِينَ يَقُومُ قَائِمُ الظَّهِيرَةِ حَتَّى تَمِيلَ الشَّمْسُ، وَحِينَ تَضَايَفَتْ لِلْغُرُوبِ حَتَّى تَغْرُبَ
Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) reports: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade us from performing prayer and burying the dead at these three times: (1) When the sun is rising, until it becomes high; (2) When the one standing at midday stands, until the sun declines; and (3) When the sun inclines to set, until it has set.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The second situation refers to the time of zenith (zawal), when the sun reaches the middle of the sky and, apparently, the shadow of any object is not visible either towards the west or the east. From this hadith, it is understood that after the Fajr prayer and after the Asr prayer, it is permissible to perform a prayer that has a specific cause, such as the funeral prayer (salat al-janazah). It should be kept in mind that after the completion of sunrise, the time of dislike (karahah) ends, as has been mentioned in general terms in some ahadith.
