Hadith 272

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man was wounded during the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He was ordered to perform ghusl (ritual bath) due to janabah, and as a result of this ghusl, he passed away. When this news reached the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: "The people have killed him, may Allah destroy them. Is not the cure for ignorance to ask a question?"

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … People should have reflected on the point that the man was wounded, and performing ritual bath (ghusl) could cause him further harm. Therefore, they should have asked other Companions about his situation, so that a definitive solution could be reached. It is this very effort that the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam has described as the cure for ignorance.

We have already explained in the benefits of Hadith number (266) the type of questioning that is required in our Shari‘ah.
