(Second chain) A man asked Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): What is your opinion about Witr? Is it Sunnah? He replied: What is Sunnah? The fact is that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the Witr prayer and the Muslims also performed this prayer. He said: No, no, I am asking whether it is Sunnah? He replied: Wait a moment, does your mind work? I am telling you that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the Witr prayer and the Muslims also performed it, (therefore we should also perform it).
