In another narration from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both), the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand other Muslims are safe, and a Muhajir (emigrant) is the one who abandons what Allah the Exalted has forbidden."

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The true mujahid (striver in the path of Allah) and muhajir (emigrant) is the one who, opposing his own self (nafs), abandons the disobedience of Allah Ta‘ala. If a person, despite migration (i.e., leaving his homeland) and striving (jihad), does not refrain from the acts of disobedience to Allah Ta‘ala, then what benefit is there in such migration and striving, which cannot even create an inclination towards righteousness within his own self? Migration (hijrah) and striving (jihad) are, in reality, about adhering to the commands and prohibitions of Allah Ta‘ala for the sake of His pleasure—whether that adherence is in the form of leaving one’s homeland, or in contending with the enemies of Allah for the elevation of Islam, or in refraining from things prohibited by the Shari‘ah.
In technical terms, moving from the abode of disbelief (dar al-kufr) to the abode of Islam (dar al-Islam) is called migration (hijrah). It should be remembered that a Muslim bids farewell to his homeland for the protection of his Islam, and the real objective of migration is to remain safe from evils. The person who, even after migrating, does not refrain from the disobedience of Allah Ta‘ala, gains no benefit from his migration. In this regard, abstaining from matters prohibited by Allah Ta‘ala is the real migration, or is the fundamental purpose of migration.
