Nafi’ reports that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say: When a man has only one garment, he should use it as an izar (lower wrap) and perform prayer, because I heard Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) saying this. And Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say: When you have only one garment, do not wrap yourself in it in the manner that the Jews do. Nafi’ says: If I were to say that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) attributed this statement to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I hope I would not be considered a liar.
