It is narrated from Asir bin Jabir, he says: When the caravans and delegations from Yemen arrived, the Commander of the Faithful, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), would repeatedly go to their caravans and inquire whether there was any individual from the Banu Qarn tribe among them. Eventually, he reached the people of Banu Qarn. He asked them: Which tribe are you from? They replied that they were from the Banu Qarn tribe. Meanwhile, the rein of Owais’s mount fell down, so one of them handed the rein to the other. At that moment, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) recognized Owais. So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: What is your name? He replied: My name is Owais. He asked: Is your mother alive? He said: Yes. He asked: Did you have a white spot (patch) on your body? He replied: Yes, then I prayed to Allah Almighty and He removed it, except for a spot the size of a dirham near my navel, so that when I see it, I remember my Lord. Upon hearing this, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: Pray for my forgiveness. He said: You are more deserving to pray for my forgiveness, because you are a companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say that the best man among the Tabi‘in is named Owais, his mother is alive, he had white marks on his body, he prayed to Allah Almighty and Allah removed that illness from him, except for a mark the size of a dirham near his navel. Upon hearing this, Owais prayed for the forgiveness of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), after which he disappeared into the crowd and it was not known where he went. Asir says: He came to Kufa, we would gather in a circle and remember Allah Almighty, and Owais would also sit with us. When he gave advice and admonition, his words would have such an effect on our hearts that no one else’s reminder had such an effect.
