It is narrated from Hasan that Ahnaf said: Once I was performing Tawaf of the Ka'bah when a man from Banu Salim came and met me and said: Shall I give you glad tidings? I said: Yes, certainly, please tell me. He said: Do you remember when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me to your tribe, Banu Sa'd, so that I may invite them to Islam, you said on that occasion: By Allah! This Messenger has only spoken good, and I have also heard only good about him. When I returned and informed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) of your words, he prayed thus: O Allah! Forgive Ahnaf. He (Ahnaf) said: So, I have the greatest hope in this very supplication.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Ahnaf bin Qais—according to the well-known opinion, his name was Dahhak; some have also reported it as Sakhr and Harith. Ahnaf is not his name, but rather his title. He is more famous by this title than by his actual name. He lived during the time of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and accepted Islam in that era, but he was not able to meet the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. He narrated hadith from Sayyiduna Umar, Sayyiduna Uthman, Sayyiduna Ali, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas‘ud, and Sayyiduna Abu Dharr, among others. The Commander of the Faithful, Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu, used to say that Ahnaf is the leader of the people of Basrah. He passed away in Basrah in the year 67 AH.
