Sayyiduna Khabbab bin Al-Aratt (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We migrated with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for the pleasure of Allah Almighty, so our reward with Allah became assured (as He has promised). Then among us were some people who departed to Allah without having consumed the reward of their deeds; among them was Sayyiduna Mus'ab bin Umair (may Allah be pleased with him), who was martyred on the day of Uhud. For his shroud, we could find only one sheet, and it was so short that when we covered his head, his feet became uncovered, and when we covered his feet, his head became uncovered. Eventually, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered us to cover his head and to place izkhir (a type of grass) on his feet. While among us are some whose fruits have ripened and now they are gathering them.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … The meaning of the last sentence refers to the spoils of war and other worldly means obtained as a result of conquests. Abu Abdullah Sayyiduna Mus‘ab bin ‘Umair radi Allahu anhu was a noble Companion. He embraced Islam in its earliest period, at a time when the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam had made the house of Arqam a center for preaching. He kept his acceptance of Islam hidden from his mother and his people. ‘Uthman bin Talhah ‘Abdari saw him performing prayer and went to inform his mother and his people about it. They imprisoned him, but he found an opportunity and migrated to Abyssinia. He returned from Abyssinia to Makkah, and then migrated from Makkah to Madinah Munawwarah. Upon reaching Madinah Munawwarah, he continued to teach people the Qur’an and instruct them in the rulings of the religion. It was he who initiated the Friday prayer (Jumu‘ah) in Madinah Munawwarah. People such as Sa‘d bin Mu‘adh radi Allahu anhu and Usayd bin Hudayr radi Allahu anhu accepted Islam at his hands. He participated in the Battle of Badr and the Battle of Uhud. In the Battle of Uhud, he was honored with martyrdom. He was the standard-bearer of the Muslims in the Battle of Uhud. At the time of his martyrdom, he was forty years old. Before Islam, he was among the most handsome and affluent young men of Makkah Mukarramah. His parents loved him very much. His mother used to dress him in the finest and most expensive clothes. He used such exquisite fragrance that perhaps no other young man in Makkah used such perfume. After accepting Islam, his condition was such that he would wear tattered and worn-out cloth. Hamnah bint Jahsh radi Allahu anha was his wife.
