Hadith 11874

It is narrated from Mutarrif bin Abdullah that Sayyiduna Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) was afflicted with the illness of death. He sent a message to call me, and when I came to him, he said to me: I used to narrate hadiths to you; I hope that after me, Allah Almighty will benefit you through these hadiths. You should know that during the severity of my illness, because of my patience, the angels of Allah used to come and greet me with peace. If I remain alive, do not disclose this to people, but if I pass away, then if you wish, you may inform them.

In another narration, it is stated: The angels of Allah used to greet me with peace, but when I had my wound cauterized, this greeting ceased. Then, when I abandoned this act, the greeting resumed. You should also know that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) combined Hajj and Umrah in a single Ihram, and after that, neither was it prohibited in the Book of Allah, nor did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) himself prohibit it. Only a man, based on his own opinion, prohibits it.

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn radi Allahu anhu embraced Islam in the seventh year of Hijrah on the occasion of Khaybar. He participated in numerous expeditions (ghazawat) with the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. On the occasion of the conquest of Makkah, he was the standard-bearer of Banu Khuza‘ah. He was a great scholar and jurist (faqih) of the religion. The Commander of the Faithful, Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab radi Allahu anhu, sent him to Basrah so that he could teach the people there the rulings of the religion. He was one whose supplications were answered (mustajab al-da‘awat). The people of Basrah used to say that Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn radi Allahu anhu would see the angels who protected him, and he would even converse with them. Allah Ta‘ala kept him under His protection, and in the disputes and battles that occurred among the noble Companions, he did not become involved. He passed away in Basrah in the year 52 Hijri.

At the end of this hadith, there is an allusion to Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu, who considered Hajj Ifrad to be superior and used to prohibit Hajj Tamattu‘. Sayyiduna Imran radi Allahu anhu wishes to say that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam combined Hajj and ‘Umrah in a single journey and did not prohibit it, so what right does Sayyiduna Umar radi Allahu anhu have to prohibit people from it? The ruling and its reasoning regarding the issues of Hajj have already been mentioned.
