It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), whenever anyone saw a dream, he would relate it to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I also wished that I would see a dream and relate it to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I was a young, unmarried man and used to sleep in the mosque during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). I saw a dream as if two angels took hold of me and led me towards Hell. It was built like a well is built, and over it were two pillars (like those of a well). When I looked into it, I saw people in it whom I recognized. Out of fear, I began to say: "I seek refuge in Allah from the Fire, I seek refuge in Allah from the Fire." Then another angel met those two angels and said to me: "Do not be afraid." I related this dream to my sister, Sayyida Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her). When she related this dream to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: "Abdullah is a good man, if only he would pray at night." Salim says: After that, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) would rarely sleep at night.
