Hadith 111

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: Whatever was asked from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for the sake of Islam, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would give it. Once a man came and asked him (peace and blessings be upon him) for something, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that he be given a large number of sheep and goats. These were zakat goats, and the valley between two mountains was filled with them. That man returned to his people and said: "O my people! Accept Islam, for Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) gives so abundantly that he does not even fear poverty."

Brief Explanation
Benefits: … This was a distinction of the Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, that he spent on individuals and spent in great amounts, whereas he paid no attention to buildings, including the Prophet’s Mosque (Masjid Nabawi) and the Suffah. As a result, people began to incline from disbelief towards Islam. The Muslims of the present age have abandoned this Sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, especially the administrators of mosques and madrasas and other organizations that collect funds. Each one is concerned that their institution and mosque building should be magnificent, such-and-such tiles should be installed, the main entrance should be attractive, and so on. But no one even knows the poor and needy people of the neighborhood, and when it comes to supporting the imams, preachers, and teachers, the specter of stinginess and complaints begins to dance, and exhortations to patience and endurance are started. Although these people consider themselves servants of Islam, they do not even have an awareness of what it means to serve Islam.
