It is narrated from Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him), he says that one of the companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) met me, so he held my shoulder from behind and said: I love you. I said: May the One for whose pleasure you have loved me, love you. He said: If the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) had not said: "When a person loves someone, he should inform him that he loves him," I would never have told you. Mujahid reported that then he offered me marriage and said: We have a slave woman, you should marry her, she has no brother or sister.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Maulana Usman Muneeb
Benefits and Issues:
➊ Loving one another for the sake of Allah is an act of great virtue, to the extent that even the Prophets and martyrs will envy those who love each other for Allah’s sake. (Tirmidhi: 2390) Therefore, when a person loves someone for the sake of Allah, he should inform him as well, so that the other person may also correct his intention and thus keep the requirements of this love in mind.
➋ When a person loves someone, he should ask him his name, lineage, and tribe so that the love and affection may become stronger and more established.
➌ When someone informs you that he loves you for the sake of Allah, you should respond with this supplication: “May the Exalted One for whose sake you have loved me also love you.”
