Hadith 5042

Narrated Muadh ibn Jabal: The Prophet ﷺ said: If a Muslim sleeps while remembering Allah, in the state of purification, is alarmed while asleep at night, and asks Allah for good in this world and in the Hereafter. He surely gives it to him. Thabit al-Bunani said: Abu Zabyah came to visit us and he transmitted this tradition to us from Muadh ibn Jabal from the Prophet ﷺ. Thabit said: So and so said: I tried my best to utter these (prayers) when I got up, but I could not do.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Umar Farooq Saeedi
Benefits and Issues:
There are many blessings in sleeping after performing ablution (wudu) and reciting the prescribed supplications (masnun adhkar).
One of these is that if a person makes supplication (dua) at any time while lying down during the night, then, insha Allah, it is accepted.
And if he gets up and engages in prayer (salah), then it is light upon light (nur ‘ala nur).
The prescribed remembrance and supplication can be seen in Hadith 5060.

Benefits and Issues:
Sleeping in a state of ablution (wudu) is very blessed.
Therefore, one should sleep while in a state of ablution so that if one wakes up during the night, one may ask Allah for something—whether it be guidance, forgiveness, or supplication for healing from illness, deliverance from hardship, or repayment of debt.
