Hadith 225

Narrated Ammar ibn Yasir: The Prophet ﷺ granted permission to a person who was sexually defiled to eat or drink or sleep after performing ablution. Abu Dawud said: In the chain of this tradition there is a narrator between Yahya bin Ya'mur and Ammar bin Yasir. Ali bin Abi Talib, Ibn Umar and Abdullah bin Amr said: When a person is sexually defiled wants to eat, he should perform ablution.

Benefits and Issues:
➊ Although this narration is technically disconnected in its chain of transmission, its meaning is established, as has been proven by previous ahadith: if a person in a state of major ritual impurity (junub) wishes to delay his ritual bath (ghusl), then it is recommended and emphasized that he should perform the ablution (wudu) of prayer. And one should not make it a habit to remain in a state of major impurity or (at the very least) to habitually neglect ablution. However, for eating and drinking, simply washing the hands is also sufficient. See further forthcoming ahadith.

That is, on the basis of corroborating and supporting narrations (mutaba‘at wa shawahid).

Note:
(There are two defects in this:
There is a discontinuity (inqita‘) in the chain between Yahya and ‘Ammar, and ‘Ata’ Khorasani is weak. However, performing ablution (wudu) before sleeping is established from the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).)
