See i have listened that zakat isnt permissable to neither hasmis nor syeds
And they link to many hadees that is clearly showing to syeds (ahle bayt) not hashmis so xan any one tell why hashmis are also not permissable to take zakat
And also as they cant take zakat government should give them in return etc like land etc
The prohibition is not limited only to “Syeds” in the common South Asian sense, meaning descendants of Hasan or Husayn رضي الله عنهما.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Zakat is not permissible for the family of Muhammad, because it is from the impurities of people’s wealth.”
[Sahih Muslim, 1072]
In the same incident, this ruling was applied to Abdul Muttalib ibn Rabi‘ah, who was from Banu Hashim but not from the descendants of Fatimah رضي الله عنها. This proves that the ruling includes Banu Hashim generally, not only Hasanī or Husaynī Syeds.
Every Syed is Hashmi, but not every Hashmi is a Syed in today’s common usage. The descendants of Abbas, Ja‘far, Aqil and Harith رضي الله عنهم are also from Banu Hashim.
Instead of zakat, Allah gave the relatives of the Prophet ﷺ a share from khums:
“And know that one-fifth of whatever spoils you obtain is for Allah, the Messenger and the near relatives…”
[Surah al-Anfal 8:41]
They may also receive gifts, voluntary charity and help from non-zakat government funds. However, there is no authentic evidence that every Hashmi must specifically be given land.
So the summary is: obligatory zakat is generally not given to a person whose Hashmi lineage is genuinely established. They should be supported through khums, Bayt al-Mal, gifts and voluntary assistance.
