Our Body Is Not Ours – It Is a Trust from Allah
Written by: Qari Usama bin Abdus Salam (ḥafiẓahullāh)
This phrase – “My body, my choice” – is commonly heard. But is it really true? Is our body solely our own?
If it were, then even a child being nurtured in the mother's womb would have the right to say:
"Mother! This body is not yours, because I am being nurtured within it."
The truth is that our body is not solely ours, but a trust (amanah) bestowed upon us by Allah ﷻ.
Just like every tree that grows, every river that flows, and every star that shines has been created for a purpose — our body too has not been created without purpose.
Allah ﷻ says:
"لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ فِيٓ أَحْسَنِ تَقْوِيمٍ"
(Indeed, We created man in the best of stature.)
(Surah At-Tin: 4)
Allah ﷻ granted us a beautiful and balanced body, but along with it, He assigned us a purpose and a responsibility.
Every organ of our body has defined boundaries and restrictions:
◈ Eyes are meant only to see that which is pure.
◈ Ears are meant to hear only truth and righteousness.
◈ Hands and feet are meant to walk the path of truth and virtue.
If this body were truly ours, we would have had complete control over it:
➊ We would never allow it to fall ill.
➋ We would prevent it from aging.
➌ We would protect it from death.
But since none of these are in our control, it proves that our body is a trust from Allah, and we must act in accordance with His will.
To those who claim “My body, my choice”, let us pose a few questions:
◈ Do you truly have control over your body?
◈ Does your heart beat by your command?
◈ Are your lungs functioning under your orders?
◈ Can you stop your breath at will?
If not, then this claim is nothing more than a misunderstanding.
The actual truth is:
“Our body, our responsibility.”
We must use our body in the correct manner, maintain its sanctity, and act according to the principles set by Allah, for He alone knows what is best for us.
Our true freedom lies in that which is aligned with truth and divine guidance:
◈ The dignity of a daughter
◈ The honor of a sister
◈ The sanctity of a mother
All these are safeguarded within the framework set by Allah, who teaches us the difference between right and wrong, and who knows what is truly beneficial for humanity.
Let us honor this great blessing, and steer it not toward misguidance, but toward the path of guidance and light.
❀ For the truth remains:
“Our body is not ours — it is a trust from Allah!”
