Woman, Capitalism, and Sexual Exploitation

Written by: Atif Ayub

❖ Exploitation in the Capitalist System

Within the capitalist order, medicines, weapons, and women are treated as commercial commodities. Medicines that could be produced for mere pennies are sold to the poor at exorbitant prices. Similarly, the manufacturing and sale of weapons have become part of a global business — wars are perpetuated to keep this industry thriving. In this very system, women too are commodified, where their honor and dignity are sold under the guise of sexual commerce.

❖ The Exploitation of Women

Movements advocating women’s freedom and rights, especially in Western societies, have led to the exploitation of women under the banner of "equal rights." In these societies, the woman is portrayed and treated as a marketable product. Whether in hotels, cafes, nightclubs, or films, she is used as an object of attraction — a tool within a massive industry.

❖ The Contradiction of Sexual Freedom

Modern ideology has introduced a contradiction in the name of sexual freedom and women's rights. Instead of addressing issues of sexual exploitation, the female body and beauty have been turned into tools for commercial gain. Through the elimination of modesty and hijab, women are pushed into the realm of sexual trade, where they are left defenseless in preserving their own dignity.

This system promotes the notion that a woman’s freedom lies in the exposure of her body and financial independence, while in reality, it is a process of reducing her to a marketable commodity.
