✿ ➊ A Glimpse of the Day of Judgment in These Surahs
Narrator: Sayyidunā ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿUmar رضي الله عنهما
Arabic Text:
مَنْ سَرَّهُ أَنْ يَنْظُرَ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ كَأَنَّهُ رَأْيُ عَيْنٍ فَلْيَقْرَأْ: إِذَا الشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْ، وَإِذَا السَّمَاءُ انْفَطَرَتْ، وَإِذَا السَّمَاءُ انْشَقَّتْ
[Musnad Aḥmad: 2/27, Sunan al-Tirmidhī: 3333 – Chain is Ṣaḥīḥ]
Translation:
“Whoever wishes to see the Day of Judgment as though he is witnessing it with his eyes, let him recite:
‘Idhā al-shamsu kuwwirat’ (Surah al-Takwīr),
‘Idhā al-samāʾu infaṭarat’ (Surah al-Infiṭār), and
‘Idhā al-samāʾu inshaqqat’ (Surah al-Inshiqqāq).”
Authenticity:
Imām al-Ḥākim رحمه الله graded this narration as ṣaḥīḥ al-isnād,
Ḥāfiẓ al-Dhahabī رحمه الله affirmed its authenticity,
And Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajar رحمه الله described it as jayyid (sound) in Fatḥ al-Bārī (8/696).
Key Virtue
These three surahs contain powerful and vivid imagery of the events of the Day of Resurrection. Reciting them gives one a real-time portrayal of Qiyāmah — as if seen before one’s very eyes.
