◈ Wiping Over Socks and the Deobandi School

Mufti Taqi Usmani (Deobandi) said:

“Jawrab refers to socks made of cotton or wool.”
(Dars-e-Tirmidhi, 1/334)

Khadim Hussain Shujaabadi (Deobandi) writes:

“Thick fabric socks are also treated as khuffayn (leather socks), because leather is not a condition for socks to be valid for masḥ (wiping). The narrations regarding wiping over socks have reached the level of tawātur (mass transmission).”
(Fadl al-Wudūd, Taqrīr Sunan Abī Dāwūd, p. 119)

Abdul Haq Haqqani Dehlavi (Deobandi) writes:

“If someone (whether on a journey or at home) does not wash his feet but instead performs masḥ (wiping) over the socks, it is sufficient, because the proof of this has clearly reached us from the Prophet ﷺ. In fact, the majority of the Hadith scholars have considered the Hadiths regarding masḥ as mutawātir. The Aṣḥāb Sittah (authors of the six major Hadith books) have narrated it…”
(Haqqani Aqa'id al-Islam, p. 236, Idara Islamiyat Lahore, Karachi — Date of Publication: June 1988)
