Question:
Is the dower obligatory if divorce is given before consummation?
Answer:
If the marriage is valid, then giving divorce before consummation will necessitate half of the dower.
❀ The command of Allah Almighty is:
﴿وَإِنْ طَلَّقْتُمُوهُنَّ مِنْ قَبْلِ أَنْ تَمَسُّوهُنَّ وَقَدْ فَرَضْتُمْ لَهُنَّ فَرِيضَةً فَنِصْفُ مَا فَرَضْتُمْ﴾
Reference: (Al-Baqarah: 237)
"If you have given divorce before consummation and the dower was also specified, then it is necessary to pay half of the specified dower."
