Will Maryam and Asiya Be the Wives of the Prophet (ﷺ) in Paradise?

Authored by: Ghulam Mustafa Zaheer Ameenpuri

❖ The Question:

Will Lady Maryam and Lady Asiya (peace be upon them) both be the wives of the Noble Prophet ﷺ in Paradise?

❖ The Answer:

There is no authentic Hadith to prove that Lady Maryam and Lady Asiya bint Muzahim (peace be upon them) will be the wives of the Noble Prophet ﷺ in Paradise. All the narrations regarding this matter do not reach the level of authenticity according to the principles of Hadith scholars.

✿ Evaluation of the Narrations:

① A narration from Abu Umamah al-Bahili رضي الله عنه states that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Aisha رضي الله عنها:

"Do you know that Allah has married me in Paradise to Maryam bint ‘Imran, Kulthum (the sister of Musa), and the wife of Pharaoh (Asiya)?"

Critique:
This narration is fabricated due to the following reasons:
  • Khalid ibn Yusuf al-Simti is considered weak by the majority of scholars.
  • ‘Abd al-Nur ibn ‘Abdullah is a known fabricator of Hadith and a deviant.
  • Yunus ibn Shu‘ayb is criticized as a narrator of unpreserved Hadiths.

② A narration by Sa‘d ibn Janadah states:

"Indeed Allah has married me in Paradise to Maryam bint ‘Imran, the wife of Pharaoh, and the sister of Musa."

Critique:
This chain is extremely weak due to multiple unknown and weak narrators, including:
  • Muhammad ibn Sa‘d al-‘Awfi – weak in Hadith.
  • Sa‘d ibn Muhammad al-‘Awfi – declared unworthy of narration.
  • Al-Husayn ibn al-Hasan ibn ‘Atiyyah al-‘Awfi – deemed weak by several major Hadith critics.

③ Ibn Abi Rawad reported that the Prophet ﷺ said to Khadijah رضي الله عنها during her final illness:

"Do you not know that Allah has married me in Paradise to you, Maryam bint ‘Imran, Kulthum the sister of Musa, and Asiya the wife of Pharaoh?"

Critique:
This chain is disconnected and contains Muhammad ibn al-Hasan ibn Zubalah, who is a liar and discarded narrator.

④ Ibn ‘Abbas رضي الله عنهما reported a similar narration regarding the Prophet ﷺ informing Lady Khadijah رضي الله عنها about his heavenly wives.

Critique:
This narration contains Abu Bakr Salmi ibn ‘Abdullah al-Hudhali, who is abandoned in Hadith.

⑤ Ibn ‘Umar رضي الله عنهما narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said regarding Maryam and Asiya:

"They will be among my wives on the Day of Judgment."

Critique:
The narration includes Muhammad ibn ‘Umar ibn Salih al-Kala‘i, known for narrating highly rejected Hadiths.

Conclusion:

There is no authentic Hadith that confirms that Lady Maryam and Lady Asiya (peace be upon them) will be the wives of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in Paradise.
None of the narrations on this subject reach the level of authenticity.
