❖ The Narration
It is narrated from Ubayy ibn Kaʿb رضي الله عنه that he said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“On the Day of Judgment, Allah ﷻ will be the first to shake hands with ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb رضي الله عنه, and he will be the first whom Allah greets with Salām. He will also be the first whose hand Allah will take and admit him into Paradise.”
❖ Ḥadīth Verification
⟹ Its chain is extremely weak (إسناده ضعيف جداً).
- This narration is reported by Ibn Mājah in Kitāb al-Sunnah, under the chapter “The Virtue of ʿUmar”, Ḥadīth no. 104.
- Shaykh al-Albānī رحمه الله classifies it as extremely rejected (منكر جداً) in Silsilat al-Aḥādīth al-Ḍaʿīfah, ḥadīth no. 2485.
- Būṣayrī states that there is a consensus on the weakness of Dāwūd ibn ʿAṭāʾ al-Madīnī, a narrator in the chain.
- Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajar رحمه الله also declared him weak in Taqrīb al-Tahdhīb.
- All chains of this narration are weak, and there is no sound supporting narration for it.
[Refer: al-Mustadrak by Ḥākim, 3/83, ḥadīth no. 4489]
- Imām al-Dhahabī said:
This is a fabricated narration, and it includes a liar in the chain.

❖ Conclusion
The claim that Allah ﷻ will be the first to shake hands with and greet ʿUmar رضي الله عنه on the Day of Judgment is not authentic and is based on extremely weak and fabricated chains.
