❀ Question
If a woman had several marriages, one after another, then in Paradise who will be her husband? Is there any explicit text on this matter?
❀ Answer
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd!
A conversation is narrated between Imām Abū al-Dardāʾ رضي الله عنه and his wife Umm al-Dardāʾ رضي الله عنها, the full reference of which is not recalled here, but its meaning is as follows:
Umm al-Dardāʾ رضي الله عنها said to Abū al-Dardāʾ رضي الله عنه:
"I did not know you before; my family arranged my marriage with you. Now my wish is that in Paradise I should also remain with you.”
In response, Abū al-Dardāʾ رضي الله عنه said:
"If you desire that, then after me do not marry anyone else.”
This narration is regarded at the level of marfūʿ ruling, and from it we learn that if a woman passes away while married to her last husband, and both enter Paradise, then in Paradise she will be with her last husband.
❀ Prophetic Ḥadīth
The Prophet ﷺ said:
«اَلْمَرْأَۃُ لِآخِرِ أَزوَاجِھَا»
"The woman will be with her last husband.”
(al-Silsilah al-Ṣaḥīḥah, 1281, Vol. 3)
In this very context, the dialogue of Abū al-Dardāʾ رضي الله عنه and Umm al-Dardāʾ رضي الله عنها is also mentioned.
