Wife Advising Her Husband to Perform Righteous Deeds

❖ Source:

This fatwa is excerpted from the book “500 Questions & Answers for Women”, based on the verdicts of the Scholars of the Ḥaramayn. Translated by Ḥāfiẓ ʿAbdullāh Salīm.

✿ Question:

If a woman advises her husband — who is negligent in offering prayers — by exhorting him and giving reminders, will she be sinful for doing so, especially when she knows that her husband gets upset at such advice, and she also knows that he has greater authority over her?

✿ Answer:

The woman will not be sinful for advising her husband who shows laziness in performing prayers. Rather, she will be rewarded for this action. However, it is essential that such exhortation and advice be delivered with gentleness and in a kind and courteous manner.
