Why Did Allah Create Us? Unveiling the Philosophy Behind Creation and Divine Testing

❖ Creation and the Philosophy of Divine Testing

Why did Allah create us? What is the purpose behind testing us?
These questions often arise in the human mind when one fails to fully comprehend the attributes of Allah and their manifestation. In reality, to understand the connection between Allah’s attributes and their expression, one must grasp a fundamental point: the very question is inherently inappropriate.

❖ Attribute and Its Expression

The relationship between Allah’s attributes and their expression cannot be understood on the basis of “reason” or “purpose.” Rather, this relationship is based on being. For instance, the attribute of hearing implies audibility, and the attribute of sight implies visibility. These are expressions of the attributes, and without their manifestation, these attributes hold no separate identity.

Allah’s Attribute of Being the Creator:
One of Allah’s attributes is being the Creator. Hence, the existence of creation is a manifestation of this attribute. Here, the question of “why” becomes irrelevant—just as it is meaningless to ask why sight leads to seeing. The existence of creation is simply an expression of Allah being the Creator.

❖ The Purpose Behind Divine Testing

Likewise, the act of testing by Allah is also related to His attributes. Among Allah’s attributes are truth and justice, and testing is a manifestation of this truth and justice. The system of reward and punishment established by Allah is an expression of His attribute of justice. Thus, even here, the question of “purpose” is misplaced.

❖ Asking 'Why' About the Expression of Attributes?

Some argue that if Allah was already the Creator, then why did He manifest His attributes?
The answer is: the question “why” does not apply to the expression of attributes. Allah’s actions cannot have an external purpose because He is self-sufficient and dependent on nothing outside Himself.

❖ The Simultaneity of Allah’s Attributes

Allah is simultaneously the Creator, the Just, the All-Knowing, and the Wise. Therefore, He manifests His attributes with His will and wisdom, and this manifestation is inherently a part of His reality.

❖ Questioning Allah’s Attributes

To ask why Allah is the way He is is itself an irrational question. Allah’s actions are not driven by any external purpose; rather, they are self-sufficient under His attribute of Samadiyyah (Absolute Self-Sufficiency). Hence, questioning Allah’s essence and attributes is tantamount to denying His Samadiyyah.

Summary

The manifestation of Allah’s attributes is a natural reality of their existence, and thus the question of “why” is irrelevant. The existence of creation and divine testing are manifestations of His attributes. To understand Allah’s attributes based on any external purpose is to deny His Samadiyyah. For this reason, asking “why” in relation to Allah is fundamentally misplaced, and His actions and attributes cannot be measured by human standards.
