Allah Almighty says:
وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ
"And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me."
[Adh-Dhariyat: 56]
This means: I created them solely for My worship and devotion, not because I needed anything from them.
Allah’s statement "إلا ليعبدون" signifies that they must fulfill acts of worship.
The jinn were created before humans and inhabited the earth. However, due to injustice and wrongdoing among themselves, corruption spread across the land. As a result, Allah created humans, honored them, and showed their nobility by commanding the angels to prostrate to their father Adam (عليه السلام).
