Who is the one that listens to the call of a distressed person in difficulty?
The only One who truly listens to the cry of the distressed and has the power to remove hardship is Allah ﷻ. Every human being can personally test and verify this reality by sincerely turning to their Lord and observing how Allah manifests the effects of their supplication (duʿāʾ).
Countless times, it has been witnessed that:
✔ Believers turned to Allah in sincere repentance, especially in times of drought, and their supplication was accepted immediately.
✔ Entire towns or communities gathered for duʿāʾ, and Allah sent down rain specifically upon them—while surrounding areas remained dry.
✔ Through the blessing of duʿāʾ, many individuals were relieved from distress, illness, poverty, or calamity.
Allah ﷻ addresses this reality in the Qur’ān:
﴿أَمَّن يُجِيبُ الْمُضْطَرَّ إِذَا دَعَاهُ وَيَكْشِفُ السُّوءَ وَيَجْعَلُكُمْ خُلَفَاءَ الْأَرْضِ ۗ أَإِلَـٰهٌ مَّعَ اللَّـهِ ۚ قَلِيلًا مَّا تَذَكَّرُونَ﴾
"Who is it that responds to the distressed one when he calls upon Him, and removes evil, and makes you successors upon the earth? Is there any deity with Allah? Little do you reflect."
— Surah al-Naml: 62
A poet described this truth beautifully:
"How many times have Muslims faced drought and hardship, and both the rich and poor turned to Allah in duʿāʾ? Their sincere plea was accepted, and the drought was lifted. Was this due to idols or nature? Certainly not. It was the mercy of the All-Hearing, All-Seeing Lord who relieves distress."
Only Allah ﷻ listens to the cry of the distressed, and only He has the power to relieve suffering and remove calamities.
This reality is affirmed by the Qur’ān, and observed through countless experiences in the lives of individuals and nations.
Therefore, in every difficulty, Muslims must turn sincerely to Allah, seek His help, and place their complete trust in Him alone.
