When and where should the Qurbānī (sacrificial animal) be slaughtered? Please clarify with evidence from the Qur'an and Sunnah.
It is reported from Ibn ʿUmar رضي الله عنهما that:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to slaughter his sacrificial animal at the musallā (ʿEid prayer ground).”
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, Kitāb al-Aḍāḥī, Bāb al-Uḍḥiyah wa al-Naḥr bi al-Muṣallā (Ḥadīth 5551–5552)
This narration indicates that the Sunnah method is to perform the Qurbānī at the ʿEid prayer ground, following the congregational prayer.
It is also narrated from Anas ibn Mālik رضي الله عنه that the Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever slaughtered his animal before the ʿEid prayer, let him repeat the sacrifice.”
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, Kitāb al-Aḍāḥī, Bāb Man Dhabḥa Qabla al-Ṣalāh Yuʿīd (Ḥadīth 5561)
In another narration, the Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever slaughtered [his animal] before the ʿEid prayer has only slaughtered for himself. But whoever slaughtered after the prayer, his sacrifice is complete, and he has followed the way of the Muslims.”
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, Kitāb al-Aḍāḥī, Bāb Qawl al-Nabiyy ﷺ li Abī Burdah... (Ḥadīth 5556)

✦ Answer:
It is reported from Ibn ʿUmar رضي الله عنهما that:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to slaughter his sacrificial animal at the musallā (ʿEid prayer ground).”
This narration indicates that the Sunnah method is to perform the Qurbānī at the ʿEid prayer ground, following the congregational prayer.

In another narration, the Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever slaughtered [his animal] before the ʿEid prayer has only slaughtered for himself. But whoever slaughtered after the prayer, his sacrifice is complete, and he has followed the way of the Muslims.”
Summary:
- The correct time for Qurbānī begins after the ʿEid prayer.
- Slaughtering before the prayer is invalid as Qurbānī and must be repeated.
- It is Sunnah to offer the sacrifice at the ʿEid prayer ground (musallā), if feasible.
- If not possible, it may be done at home or any appropriate location, but not before the prayer.
