❀ Ruling on Reciting an Alternative Supplication if One Does Not Remember the Funeral Prayer Du‘ā ❀
If a person does not remember the supplication (du‘ā) specific to the funeral prayer, can they recite a general supplication from regular prayers after the third takbīr as a substitute?

One should strive to memorize the specific supplications prescribed for the funeral prayer. However, if they are not yet memorized, then one may recite:
"رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ"
“Our Lord! Forgive me, my parents, and the believers.”
✔ It is preferable that the supplications of the funeral prayer are taught and memorized.
✔ However, if one does not remember any specific du‘ā, the following masnūn (authentic) supplications can be recited:

"اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ وَالْمُسْلِمِينَ وَالْمُسْلِمَاتِ، الأَحْيَاءِ مِنْهُمْ وَالأَمْوَاتِ"
“O Allah! Forgive the believing men and believing women, and the Muslim men and Muslim women, those who are alive and those who have passed away.”

"اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِحَيِّنَا وَمَيِّتِنَا، وَشَاهِدِنَا وَغَائِبِنَا، وَصَغِيرِنَا وَكَبِيرِنَا، وَذَكَرِنَا وَأُنْثَانَا"
“O Allah! Forgive our living and our dead, those present and those absent, our young and our old, our males and our females.”
✔ If even these are not remembered, then at the very least, supplications should be made that preserve the meaning of the funeral prayer.
✔ Additionally, it is commendable to say Āmīn to the du‘ā being made by the Imām and join in silently with one’s heart.
هٰذَا مَا عِندِي وَاللّٰهُ أَعْلَمُ بِالصَّوَابِ
