Narration:
رَوَى مَالِكٌ بِسَنَدِهِ...
Imām Mālik narrated through his chain from Muʿādh ibn Jabal رضي الله عنه that:
“They set out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the year of Tabūk. During this journey, the Prophet ﷺ would combine Dhuhr with ʿAsr and Maghrib with ʿIshāʾ. One day, he delayed the prayer, then came out and performed Dhuhr and ʿAsr together. He then returned, came out again, and performed Maghrib and ʿIshāʾ together...” (end of Hadith)
Authentication and References:
➋ The correct opinion is that actual (ḥaqīqī) combination of prayers is permissible, especially during travel or when there is a need.
