What Is the Meaning of the Word "Shayatin"?

Compiled by: Dr. Rizā Abdullah Pāshā (May Allah Protect Him)

Answer:

The word "Shayatin" is derived from the root "shatn," meaning to be distant or far away. It refers to something inherently distant from the nature of humans and distant from goodness due to its disobedience. The name "Shaytan" is attributed to this entity because of its rebellion and distance from the truth. Therefore, any being, whether from jinn, humans, or animals, that exceeds limits and becomes rebellious is referred to as "Shaytan."
