"She said, ‘O Messenger of Allah! Why is it that the people have exited the state of ʿUmrah, while you have not exited yours?’ The Prophet ﷺ replied: ‘I have performed Talbīd of my hair and garlanded my sacrificial animal, so I will not exit the state of iḥrām until I slaughter the animal.’"
Talbīd refers to the act of binding or matting the hair using a sticky substance to prevent the hair from scattering or becoming untidy during the pilgrimage.

❖ Ḥadīth No. 3:
Narrated by Ḥafṣah, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ:"She said, ‘O Messenger of Allah! Why is it that the people have exited the state of ʿUmrah, while you have not exited yours?’ The Prophet ﷺ replied: ‘I have performed Talbīd of my hair and garlanded my sacrificial animal, so I will not exit the state of iḥrām until I slaughter the animal.’"
❖ Explanation of Key Terms:
لَبَّدْتُ رَأْسِي (Labbadtu ra’sī):Talbīd refers to the act of binding or matting the hair using a sticky substance to prevent the hair from scattering or becoming untidy during the pilgrimage.
- لبدت: Past tense verb, first-person singular, from the tafʿīl pattern.
❖ Explanation of the Ḥadīth:
The Prophet ﷺ had in fact entered the state of Iḥrām with the intention of performing Ḥajj Qirān, meaning he combined both ʿUmrah and Ḥajj. Therefore, he did not exit the state of Iḥrām after ʿUmrah, and said that he would not exit it until the sacrificial animal had been slaughtered.❖ The Narrator of the Ḥadīth:
Umm al-Mu’minīn Ḥafṣah bint ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb رضي الله عنها- Born five years before the Prophethood.
- Married the Prophet ﷺ in the 3rd year of Hijrah.
- Narrated about sixty aḥādīth.
- Her date of death is subject to different reports; the most reliable opinion is that she passed away in 50 AH.
