The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
"When Allah fashioned Adam (AS) in Paradise, He left him for as long as He willed. Then Iblis began to circle around him to see what he was. When he saw that he was hollow from within, he realized that this creation would not have control over itself."
(Sahih Muslim, Hadith No. 2611)
The term ‘Ajwaf’ means hollow or a being with an empty cavity. According to one interpretation, ‘Ajwaf’ refers to a creation that is not solid inside.
The phrase ‘La Yatamallak’ means that Adam (and his descendants) would have difficulty fully controlling themselves. It is said that they would struggle to restrain their desires, resist whispers (waswasah), or control their anger. This weakness applies generally to the entire human race—all the descendants of Adam (AS).
This Hadith sheds light on human vulnerability to desires, emotions, and Satan’s whispers, emphasizing the need for spiritual discipline and seeking refuge in Allah.
