Fatwa by: Sheikh Ibn Jibreen (may Allah protect him)
Question:
It is permissible for a woman to wear clothing of any color. However, she should avoid wearing colors that are specifically associated with men, as women who imitate men, and men who imitate women, are considered cursed.
A woman must wear clothing that covers her entire body. If she is in the presence of non-mahram (unrelated) men, it is not permissible for any part of her body to remain uncovered, including the face, hands, and feet. However, if part of her body is accidentally exposed, for example while picking something up or passing something, there is no harm in that.
A woman should also avoid wearing tight clothing that reveals the contours and features of her body, such as the shoulders, ribs, buttocks, or the size of her breasts. Children should be accustomed to wearing loose clothing from a young age, as whatever a girl becomes accustomed to in childhood will likely continue into adulthood, and breaking such habits later can be difficult.
Some women's clothing is designed to highlight their physical features, and they appear before non-mahram men in such attire, which can lead to various forms of temptation and its causes. When necessary, a woman may wear tight or short clothing within her home in the presence of mahram (related) men, such as when part of her body, like the calves or arms, becomes exposed during work.
May Allah grant success.
Question:
- What is the ruling on women wearing completely white, yellow, and red clothing while maintaining modesty?
- What is the ruling in Shariah on wearing such short clothing that leaves the feet uncovered?
