❖ The Call of Tribalism and Its Rejection

✿ The Incident Between a Muhājir and an Anṣārī

One of the Muhājirīn, known for his cheerful and humorous nature, once playfully slapped an Anṣārī on the back. The Anṣārī became angry and cried out, “O Anṣār!”, and in response, the Muhājir called, “O Muhājirīn!”

Upon hearing these tribal calls, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out of his tent and said:

“What is this call of Jāhiliyyah while I am still among you?”

He expressed strong displeasure and said:

“Leave this call – for it is a repugnant one!”

(Bukhārī 3518, Muslim 2584)

❖ Condemnation of Jāhili Tribalism

Jundub ibn ʿAbdullah رضي الله عنه reported the Prophet ﷺ said:

“Whoever is killed under a blind (i.e., ignorant) banner, while calling towards or supporting tribalism, he dies a death of Jāhiliyyah.”
(Muslim 1850)

❖ Helping One’s People in Falsehood

ʿAbdullāh ibn Masʿūd رضي الله عنه said:

“Whoever helps his people in falsehood is like a camel that falls into a well, with only its tail sticking out.”
(Abū Dāwūd 5117, also in Musnad Aḥmad 3726)

❖ Allah’s Hatred for Those Who Follow Jāhili Practices

Ibn ʿAbbās رضي الله عنهما narrated the Prophet ﷺ said:

“There are three types of people most hated by Allah:
① Those who live in Makkah or Madinah and abandon Islamic guidance
② Those who attempt to revive Jāhili practices in Islam
③ Those who unjustly seek to spill innocent blood”

(Bukhārī 6882)

❖ Honoring the Hypocrite

✿ Calling a Hypocrite a Leader Incurs Allah’s Wrath

Buraydah رضي الله عنه reported the Prophet ﷺ said:

“Do not call a hypocrite your leader. If he is your leader, then you have angered your Lord.”
(Abū Dāwūd 4977 — graded Ṣaḥīḥ by al-Albānī, and Ḍaʿīf by Shaykh Zubair ʿAlī Zai)

✿ Praising the Worldly Hypocrite Is Forbidden

If someone possesses worldly wealth and success, yet holds corrupt beliefs and a false religion, then:

◈ Praising him
◈ Admiring his culture or civilization
◈ Being impressed by his manners or skills

All of this is ḥarām.

These are fleeting benefits of the world, and without faith, eternal Hellfire awaits.

Allah ﷻ says:

“Do not let your eyes covet the worldly enjoyment We have given some among them... the provision of your Lord is better and more lasting.”
(Ṭāhā: 131)

❖ Ruling on Participating in Religious Festivals of Deviants

◈ Attending their religious festivals
◈ Assisting in organizing such events
◈ Offering congratulatory messages

All of these are ḥarām and cause one to incur Allah’s wrath.

❖ Attending Gatherings of Deviants

✿ The Destruction of an Army Intending to Attack the Kaʿbah

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“An army will march toward the Kaʿbah with the intention of attacking the believers inside. When they reach the land of Baydāʾ, Allah will cause the earth to swallow all of them – from the first to the last.”

ʿĀʾishah asked:

“O Messenger of Allah, but there will be ordinary people and traders among them?”

The Prophet ﷺ replied:

“All of them will be swallowed, but on the Day of Judgment, they will be resurrected according to their intentions.”
(Bukhārī 2118, Muslim 2884)

❖ The Sharʿī Rule for Attending Such Gatherings:

Attending deviant or sinful gatherings is only permissible when:

◈ The intention is to call towards the truth
◈ Or to refute falsehood

Allah ﷻ says:

“And when you see those who engage in [mockery of] Our revelations, turn away from them until they engage in a different topic. And if Satan makes you forget, then do not sit with the wrongdoing people after remembering.”
(Al-Anʿām: 68)

✿ Choosing the Company of the Righteous

Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī رضي الله عنه reported the Prophet ﷺ said:

“Do not take anyone as your companion except a believer, and let no one eat your food except a righteous person.”
(Abū Dāwūd 4832, Tirmidhī 2395)

❖ Committing Sins Openly (ʿAlāniyyah)

✿ Tearing the Veil That Allah Has Placed

Openly admitting or committing sins:

◈ Indicates a lack of fear of Allah
◈ Is a barrier to forgiveness

Abū Hurayrah
رضي الله عنه narrated the Prophet ﷺ said:

“All of my Ummah will be forgiven, except those who sin openly. Among the forms of open sinning is when a man commits a sin at night, and Allah conceals it. But in the morning, he says: ‘O so-and-so, I did such-and-such last night,’ while Allah had covered it. He tears off Allah’s veil from himself.”
(Bukhārī 6069, Muslim 2990)

❖ Concluding Note:

This article serves as a wake-up call:

✔ Avoid tribalism and calls of Jāhiliyyah
✔ Do not honor hypocrites or praise worldly people with corrupt beliefs
✔ Stay away from deviant gatherings unless for daʿwah or refutation
✔ Do not expose or boast about sins
✔ Keep righteous companionship
