Vision of Allah on the Day of Judgment: Reserved Only for Believers

❖ Will Non-Muslims Be Blessed with the Vision of Allah? ❖

Source: Fatāwā Amunpuri by Shaykh Ghulam Mustafa Zaheer Amunpuri

Question:

Will non-Muslims be blessed with the vision of Allah?

Answer:

The vision of Allah ﷻ is the greatest blessing. On the Day of Judgment, there will be no blessing for non-Muslims; therefore, the vision of Allah ﷻ will only be granted to the believers, not to the disbelievers and hypocrites. In the rulings of the Hereafter, hypocrites and disbelievers will face the same outcome.

✿ Qur’anic Evidence

❀ Allah ﷻ says:
﴿كَلَّا إِنَّهُمْ عَنْ رَّبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَمَحْجُوبُونَ﴾
(Al-Muṭaffifīn: 15)
“Indeed, on that Day, they (the disbelievers) will surely be veiled from their Lord.”

Statements of the Scholars

Imam Humaydi رحمه الله (d. 219H) said:
Sufyan ibn ʿUyaynah رحمه الله was asked: “Bishr al-Mareesi claims that Allah will not be seen on the Day of Judgment.” He replied: “May Allah destroy this lowly creature! Has he not read Allah’s saying: ﴿كَلَّا إِنَّهُمْ عَنْ رَّبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّمَحْجُوبُونَ﴾ (Indeed, on that Day, they will surely be veiled from their Lord)? If the friends of Allah were also to be veiled, then what virtue would they have over the enemies?”
(Ḥilyat al-Awliyāʾ: 7/297, Tārīkh Baghdād: 6/65, with an authentic chain)

Imam al-A’immah Ibn Khuzaymah رحمه الله (d. 311H) said:
“This chapter clarifies that the vision of Allah ﷻ, which is reserved for His friends on the Day of Judgment, is what is mentioned in His saying: ﴿وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاضِرَةٌ، إِلَى رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٌ﴾ (Al-Qiyāmah: 22–23) — ‘That Day, [some] faces will be radiant, looking at their Lord.’ This virtue is exclusive to the believing friends of Allah. All of Allah’s enemies — polytheists, Jews, Christians, Magians, and hypocrites — will be deprived of it, as Allah said: ﴿كَلَّا إِنَّهُمْ عَنْ رَّبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّمَحْجُوبُونَ﴾ (Al-Muṭaffifīn: 15). This vision will occur after the people of Paradise enter Paradise and the people of Hell enter Hell. Allah will then bestow upon the believers the honor of gazing at Him, as an additional blessing of His bounty, while all His enemies will be deprived of this.”
(Kitāb al-Tawḥīd wa Ithbāt Ṣifāt al-Rabb 2/441)

Ḥāfiẓ Nawawi رحمه الله (d. 676H) said:
“The vision of Allah ﷻ is exclusively for the believers. As for the disbelievers, they will not see Him, Most Exalted. Some have said that the hypocrites of this Ummah will see Allah, but this is weak. The correct opinion, upon which the majority of Ahl al-Sunnah are agreed, is that the hypocrites will not see Allah ﷻ, just as the rest of the disbelievers will not see Him. This is agreed upon by the scholars.”
(Sharḥ al-Nawawi: 5/134)

✅ Conclusion:
The vision of Allah ﷻ on the Day of Judgment is the greatest privilege, reserved solely for the believers. Disbelievers and hypocrites will be deprived of it, as confirmed by the Qur’an and the consensus of Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jamāʿah.
