❖ The Virtue of Wudu and the Prophet’s ﷺ Recognition of His Ummah on the Day of Judgement ❖

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned the virtue and blessings of Wudu (ablution) and said:
"I will recognize my Ummah on the Day of Judgment."
Someone asked:
“O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! How will you recognize them, while all the people of the world will be gathered there?”
The Prophet ﷺ replied:
“One sign will be that the faces and hands of my Ummah will be shining due to Wudu.”
(Fatḥ al-Rabbānī, 2/35)
What is the authenticity of this narration?
Alḥamdulillāh, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. To proceed:
Narrated by Nuʿaym al-Mujammir from Abū Hurayrah رضي الله عنه:
This narration is completely authentic, and is found in both:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“My Ummah will come on the Day of Judgment with bright faces, hands, and feet due to the traces of Wudu.”
(Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī and Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim)
Narrated by Zirr ibn Ḥubaysh from Ibn Masʿūd رضي الله عنه:
This narration is recorded in:
✔ The meaning of the narration is correct, and it is supported by multiple Ṣaḥīḥ and Ḥasan Hadiths.
✔ On the Day of Judgment, the faces, hands, and feet of the Ummah of Muḥammad ﷺ will be radiant due to the effects of Wudu.
✔ This radiance will serve as a distinctive sign through which the Prophet ﷺ will recognize his followers.

(1) Ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah رضي الله عنه
Narrated by Nuʿaym al-Mujammir from Abū Hurayrah رضي الله عنه:
This narration is completely authentic, and is found in both:
- Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī (Ḥadīth: 136)
- Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim (Ḥadīth: 246, 34, 35)
“My Ummah will come on the Day of Judgment with bright faces, hands, and feet due to the traces of Wudu.”
(Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī and Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim)
(2) Ḥadīth of Ibn Masʿūd رضي الله عنه
Narrated by Zirr ibn Ḥubaysh from Ibn Masʿūd رضي الله عنه:
This narration is recorded in:
- Sunan Ibn Mājah (Ḥadīth: 284)
- Its grading: Ḥasan li dhātih (Acceptable in itself)
