❶ It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه) that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said:
"التاجر الصدوق الأمين ، مع النبيين والصديقين والشهداء"
“The truthful and trustworthy trader will be with the Prophets, the truthful ones, and the martyrs.”
[Sahih li ghayrihi: Sahih al-Targhib: 1782, Book of Trade: Chapter on Encouragement for Traders to be Truthful; Tirmidhi: 1209]
❷ It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (رضي الله عنهما) that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said:
"التاجر الأمين الصدوق المسلم مع الشهداء يوم القيامة"
“The honest, truthful, and Muslim trader will be with the martyrs on the Day of Resurrection.”
[Hasan Sahih: Sahih al-Targhib: 1783, Book of Trade: Chapter on Encouragement for Traders to be Truthful; Ibn Majah: 2139]
❸ In another narration, it is stated that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) saw people engaged in trade and said:
"يا معشر التجار ، فاستجابوا لرسول الله"
“O group of traders, respond to the call of the Messenger of Allah.”
The people raised their necks and eyes towards him, and he said:
"إن التجار يبعثون يوم القيامة فجار إلا من اتقى الله وبر و صدق"
“Indeed, traders will be resurrected on the Day of Judgment as sinful people, except for the one who feared Allah, was righteous, and spoke the truth.”
[Sahih li ghayrihi: Sahih al-Targhib: 1785, Book of Trade: Chapter on Encouragement for Traders to be Truthful; Tirmidhi: 1210; Ibn Majah: 2146; Ibn Hibban in his Sahih: 4890; Al-Hakim: 6/2 — Imam Hakim has declared this narration authentic.]
Summary:
Islam holds in high regard those traders who uphold honesty, integrity, and piety in their dealings. Such traders are promised a lofty status in the Hereafter—alongside Prophets, the truthful, and the martyrs. However, the warning is also clear: traders who do not adhere to these virtues face the risk of being raised among the sinful on the Day of Judgment. Therefore, fear of Allah and truthfulness are essential qualities for anyone engaged in trade.
