Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari رضي الله عنه narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
"Whoever fasts the month of Ramadan and then follows it with six days from Shawwal, it is as if he fasted for a lifetime."
[Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1164]
❀ « عن ثوبان رضي الله عنه، عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم أنه قال: من صام ستة أيام بعد الفطر كان تمام السنة، من جاء بالحسنة فله عشر أمثالها »
Thawban رضي الله عنه narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
"Whoever fasts six days after Eid al-Fitr, it is as though he fasted for the entire year. Whoever performs a good deed shall receive ten times its reward."
[Sunan Ibn Mājah 1715, Ṣaḥīḥ]
Thawban رضي الله عنه narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
"Fasting during Ramadan equals ten months, and fasting six days (of Shawwal) equals two months. That is the fasting of the entire year, meaning Ramadan followed by six days thereafter."
[Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Khuzaymah: 2115, Ṣaḥīḥ]
By combining these fasts with those of Ramadan, the reward becomes equivalent to fasting the entire year. This is because one good deed is multiplied tenfold; hence, the thirty fasts of Ramadan are equivalent to ten months, and the additional six fasts make up the remaining two months — thus completing the reward for a whole year of fasting.
✿ Virtue of the Six Fasts of Shawwal

✔ Note:
The scholars have considered the six fasts of Shawwal to be recommended (mustaḥabb). These fasts can be observed at any time during the month of Shawwal — either consecutively or separately.By combining these fasts with those of Ramadan, the reward becomes equivalent to fasting the entire year. This is because one good deed is multiplied tenfold; hence, the thirty fasts of Ramadan are equivalent to ten months, and the additional six fasts make up the remaining two months — thus completing the reward for a whole year of fasting.
