Virtue of Dying on Friday

Authored by: Al-Sheikh Mubashir Ahmad Rabbani (Hafizahullah)

Question:

Is there any virtue associated with passing away on Friday? Some people claim that whoever dies on Friday is destined for Paradise. Can you clarify this based on the Qur’an and Sunnah?

Answer:

I am not aware of any authentic virtue specifically linked to dying on Friday that guarantees entry into Paradise. However, it is important to note that entry into Paradise depends on correct beliefs, righteous deeds, and a good ending (Khatimah bil-Khayr).

The key to Paradise is having a correct Aqeedah (belief system) and leaving this world free from shirk (associating partners with Allah) or major disbelief (kufr). The following are some important points regarding this:
  1. The Prophet ﷺ mentioned in multiple authentic Ahadith that whoever's final words are “La ilaha illa Allah” will enter Paradise.
  2. However, if a person committed shirk or engaged in clear disbelief without repentance before death, they will be deprived of Paradise, as Allah has stated in the Qur’an:
“Indeed, Allah does not forgive associating partners with Him, but He forgives anything else for whom He wills.”
[Surah An-Nisa: 48]

Final Words:

  • The virtue of dying on Friday does not automatically guarantee entry into Paradise.
  • What truly matters is having correct belief, righteous actions, and leaving this world in a state of faith and obedience to Allah.
  • May Allah keep us steadfast upon the correct beliefs and protect us from shirk and disbelief. Ameen!
