What is the ruling on making the intention (niyyah) for Salah verbally?
الحمد لله، والصلاة والسلام علىٰ رسول الله، أما بعد!
Articulating the intention (niyyah) verbally—i.e., expressing it in spoken words before beginning the Salah—is:
– Not found in the Noble Qur’an,
– Not found in authentic Ahadith,
– Not found in the sayings of the Companions (رضي الله عنهم),
– Nor in the reports from the Tabi‘in (رحمهم الله).
◈ Is not established in the Shari‘ah
◈ Is an incorrect practice
◈ Should be avoided
