Question
What do the scholars of Islam say regarding this issue: Shamīm granted his son permission to conduct the marriage of his sister. Later, the son, Ḥājī Qāsim, arranged the marriage. Afterward, Shamīm said that he would not give his daughter in marriage. According to the Sharīʿah of Muḥammad ﷺ, can the son conduct his sister’s marriage with the father’s permission or not?
✔ Answer
Alḥamdulillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, Ammā Baʿd!
It should be understood that once the father has given permission to his son, and the son has proceeded with the arrangement of his sister’s marriage, then if afterward the father refuses to allow the marriage, such refusal is entirely invalid.
Since the father initially granted permission, the marriage conducted on the basis of that permission is completely valid, and the marriage stands established.
