Ruling on Reciting Different Supplications in Rukū‘ and Sujūd
❖ Question:
In Rukū‘ (bowing) and Sujūd (prostration), should only one supplication be recited, or is it permissible to recite multiple supplications together?
For example, is it allowed to recite both "سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْأَعْلَىٰ" and "سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ..." together?
❖ Answer:
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ‘alā Rasūlillāh, Ammā ba‘d:
It is permissible to recite the prescribed (masnūn) supplications in Rukū‘ and Sujūd, whether it is a single supplication or multiple ones together.
❖ Evidences:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said regarding the supplication in Tashahhud:
"ثُمَّ لِيَخْتَرْ مِنَ الدُّعَاءِ أَعْجَبَهُ إِلَيْهِ فَيَدْعُو"
"Then let him choose from the supplications whatever he likes the most and supplicate with it."
(Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 835)
Summary:
It is permissible to recite more than one prescribed supplication together in Rukū‘ and Sujūd, provided that the supplications are authentically established.
A person is allowed to choose and recite any supplication he prefers from the ones reported.
