Nowadays, people commonly use the titles “Ṣādiq” (truthful) and “Amīn” (trustworthy) for various politicians. Can these terms be used for any ordinary individual? Respected Shaykh, kindly explain the proper meaning of “Ṣādiq” and “Amīn.”
Shaykh Saʿīd Mujtabā Saʿīdī ḥafiẓahullāh responded:
✔ Ṣādiq (صادق):
A person who has never uttered a lie throughout his life.
✔ Amīn (أمين):
An individual who has never committed a breach of trust or betrayal.
These two noble traits — absolute truthfulness and perfect trustworthiness — are not found in any contemporary politician, nor can they be truly attributed to them.
➤ The titles Ṣādiq and Amīn denote exceptional and lifelong moral integrity, and should not be used loosely or politically for individuals who do not embody these qualities in absolute terms.
