Chapter: The Consequences of Oppression and Severing Family Ties

✦ Sins that Bring Immediate Worldly Punishment

[Ḥasan: Reported by Abū Dāwūd 4902; al-Tirmidhī 2679; Ibn Mājah 4211; Aḥmad 20374]
Narrated by Abū Bakrah
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“There is no sin more deserving of swift punishment in this world — along with what is stored for it in the Hereafter — than oppression and severing of family ties.”

✦ Severing Kinship Severs Divine Connection

[Ḥasan: Reported by al-Bukhārī in al-Adab al-Mufrad 54]
Narrated by ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ (رضي الله عنهما):
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Kinship is a bond connected to the Most Merciful. Whoever maintains it, Allah will maintain His connection with him. And whoever severs it, Allah will sever His connection with him. On the Day of Judgment, kinship will have a sharp and eloquent tongue.”

✦ Summary of Warnings

Oppression and severing family ties are grave sins that invite swift worldly punishment.
They also incur severe consequences in the Hereafter.
Maintaining kinship ensures a continued connection with Allah, while cutting it results in divine disassociation.
On the Day of Judgment, kinship will speak out, testifying for or against people.
