✦ A Symbolic Means of Discipline​


«عن عبد الله بن عمر قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: علِّقوا السوط حيث يراه أهل البيت.»

[Ḥasan: Reported by Abū Nuʿaym in Ḥilyat al-Awliyāʾ 7/332]
Narrated by ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿUmar (رضي الله عنهما):
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Hang the whip where the members of the household can see it.”

«عن عبد الله بن عباس قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: علِّقوا السوط حيث يراه أهل البيت، فإنه لهم أدب.»

[Ḥasan: Reported by al-Ṭabarānī in al-Kabīr 10/345; al-Awsaṭ; Majmaʿ al-Baḥrayn 3130]
Narrated by ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAbbās (رضي الله عنهما):
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Hang the whip where the members of the household can see it, for it serves as a means of discipline for them.”
