Fatwa by: Shaykh Ibn Jibreen (حفظه الله)
Question:
I am a 25-year-old woman. From childhood until I was 21, I did not pray or fast due to laziness and negligence. My parents advised me, but I did not care. Now, Allah (ﷻ) has guided me, and I am committed to praying and fasting and feel regret for my past inaction. What should I do?
Answer:
Repentance erases past sins. Therefore, sincerely repent for the previous negligence, firmly commit yourself to fulfilling the obligations of worship with resolve and truthfulness, and perform many voluntary prayers and fasts. Likewise, engage in the remembrance of Allah (ﷻ), recitation of the Qur’an, and supplication. Allah (ﷻ) is the One who accepts repentance from His servants and forgives sins.
And Allah knows best.
